Residential
The examples featured below reflect a sensitivity to, in the case of an addition to an existing house, its architectural style . This contextual approach in the end creates design where new meets existing in a seamless fashion.
Featured on the About Us page, lacking distinctive characteristics, the design concept of this award winning project was to create a sense of style for the home. Toward that end, the new design sought to to be both compatible with the existing structure and to devise an architectural language for the house that could be carried into the interior.
This home, designed by architect George M. Rowland in 1925,was a modest, but well built house. Situated on a small lot, the design challenge was to create two major additions in 1991 and 2013 more than doubling the size of the home while maintaining the small scale of the street facade.
An award winning design, the owner of this ranch tract home wanted the exterior to have an attractive, contemporary appearance. In particular, they wanted a more prominent entry. Large trellised dormers, addition of a glass doorand flanking windows gave the house an entry and much needed light into the living room.
The owners wish for this pool house addition was to provide a warm, sunny room for dining and entertaining. In addition, they desired a room that would be comfortable, light, and afford access and views to their pool. The design is sympathetic to the colonial style of the home and provides a backdrop for the owners antique wicker collection.
Commercial/ Medical Office
The case studies below illustrate examples of new construction, adaptive reuse, and complete renovation.
CTR Systems, Inc. is a 10,000 square foot office in a RIDC Park. The client, a computerized time keeping company, wanted their new building to have a sleek contemporary appearance.
Westmoreland Dermatology Associationwas an adaptive reuse project. Originally built as a large single family home, the building had since become vacant and in disrepair. While the design resulted in a complete renovation with additions, the original charm of the building was maintained. The building is now a modern medical facility.
Meadows Professional Center was a renovation of an abandoned building into medical office space. The exterior underwent extensive renovation redesigning dissimilar building elements into a unified facade. All entries were integrated by creating well lit, bright roofs. The interior was completely demolished and rebuilt into attractive lease space. By eliminating levels, handicapped access to all office space was achieved.
Interiors
Furniture/ Casework
Typically many of our projects involve interior design. The following examples depict custom designs selected from the residential clients featured above.
Highlighted from the second residential case study, the paneled family room contains in addition to the featured custom fireplace, built- in cabinetry including a TV cabinet. The paneling is cherry. All moldings were custom designed by our office creating a truly one of a kind room.
The interior appointments of the pool house addition consist of hand painted color washed walls, maple floors, painted wood custom designed trim and moldings giving the room a warm glow.
The custom designed conservatory addition of this award winning project is featured on the Home page. The original estate home was designed by the architectural firm of Ingham and Boyd in 1923. The design concept was to transform the existing kitchen, maids dining room, and cold room into a kitchen and family center with enough space for all cooking and family activities complete with custom TV, stereo, games and book cabinets for the children. New french doors open to the outdoors to provide access to the formal gardens. The existing butlers pantry was redesigned to include new cabinetry complete with felt lined drawers for silver storage. A built in desk allows for daily planning. A custom designed settee provides additional seating for the family. Befitting the estate, all cabinets, and moldings were custom designed specifically for the project.
Another example from the second case study illustrates that cabinetry can be designed to have the character of furniture. The master bath vanity and upper medicine cabinet were custom designed to include a marble counter matching the inlaid marble floor. The painted wood cabinets were richly appointed to include double pilasters and cornice work creating a classical appearance.
